Take a closer look at this activity....
This activity is easy to set up! Simply place the cards along with some clothespins (alternatively you can use dry-erase markers) into a basket or on a tray.
After using in a small group or one-on-one, so children understand the activity, they can go back to use these cards again and again.
Children begin the activity by identifying the object on the card. Next, they say the word aloud, focusing on the beginning sound of the word.
Then, they identify the letter the word starts with and point to it on the card.
**Teacher Tip: Introduce this activity either one-on-one or in small groups. It can be helpful to show each card to your preschoolers and identify the objects/animals with them prior to starting the activity.
Then children place a clip on the letter they identified as the beginning letter.
When children use clothespins they are working on finger dexterity and strength development.
**Advanced preschoolers and kindergarten students may enjoy placing the cards in a line in order from A-Z as a follow up activity.
