News Station Preschool Dramatic PlayThis fun News Station dramatic play pack makes it easy for you to set up a fun dramatic play experience for preschoolers. Setting up your News Station When setting up your News Station Dramatic Play Pack it's important to give your students ownership of their play. If possible set up some anchor pieces* , and provide them with a prop box of items (but avoid "setting" up the space for them entirely). Let them use their creativity wherever possible (create your own props or pretend using something similar). Suggested Props for your News Station:
Include DIYTry your hand at creating pretend cameras out of recycling materials, this one is so fun! Such a creative used of materials, the bottle caps as buttons, paper tube and flashlight for a scope and plastic cup on the front for a lens are all incredible details! Kids could have fun creating their own individual cameras, too. Set the SceneSet the scene with the included signs and posters. These fun signs are also a great way to support literacy development. A Special Place for the MeteorologistPreschoolers are learning all about the weather and the impact it has on our daily lives. Set up a board for your Meteorologists to refer to when announcing the weather! Let the space grow and evolve with your students during the week! Check in: ask your students to ask if there is anything they need for their space. What your students are learning when they use this resource... Students are learning about the roles and jobs of people in their community. There are so many jobs to be had when you are part of a news team! Learn new vocabulary and use the name badges to assign roles. These badges also encourage teamwork, and taking turns. The included "When I work at..." posters show students some of the important jobs, and tasks that happen at a news station. There is always something to do, and it takes a team to make it happen! Planning and predicting are important skills for preschoolers to learn. They can have fun while exploring these concepts while playing the role of meteorologist. Children will learn more about science as they describe changes in the environment, and use new vocabulary to discuss climate and weather.
