How assessments can help:

This preschool assessment binder provides you with the pages you'll need to conduct informal assessments (natural observations, collect work samples, collect data, etc.) as well as direct assessments (through questionnaires and the use of printable assessment activities targeting specific standards).

The observation form that has been included has been designed for you to casually observe children (without intruding as they play). Use it to record anecdotal notes such as individual students skills, attitudes, and behaviors as they relate to the learning outcomes.

At the beginning of the year you can use the  "quick assessment form" and coordinating direct assessment activities to easily assess and gather baseline data for each student.
Whether you are childcare provider, or parent homeschooling a preschool aged child: assessments serve many important purposes.

They will help you:
1. Determine how your preschooler is growing in key developmental areas
2. Identify potential problems in development, and indicate areas that children need may need additional support.
3. Evaluate if the curriculum you are using is meeting the needs of the children in your program.

What do I assess my preschooler on?

This product has been aligned to our own Pre-K Printable Fun early learning standards. These early learning standards have been developed based on the research and study of common preschool (ages 3-5 not yet in Kindergarten) learning domains accepted across many individual U.S States. They are also what we use as our guide to design our products!.
Our standards contain over 50 preschool early learning outcomes spanning the following 8 developmental domains: Social Emotional, Approaches to Learning, Physical Development, Language & Literacy, Mathematics, Science & Discovery, Social Studies, and Art & Creativity.
Are you required to use a specific set of learning standards for your assessments? I've included a blank assessment pages for you to input your own standards, as well as a link to a google slides file where you can easily add your own digital text boxes.

Involve parents and peers

This set includes everything you'll need to partner with the parents in your program! In this set you will find: a welcome letter, learning outcome poster, and take home observation forms.

Use the included overview form and progress report to present to parents at your quarterly parent-teacher conferences so they can more effectively support their child's learning at home.

Involve other students by using the included peer-to-peer thank you notes, which allow children to recognize the special achievements of their peers across the social emotional domain.

Using the data to improve your program

Once you have completed the assessments for the children in your program, it's time to review the data!

  • Do you have gaps in your curriculum? If you noticed very few children mastering a set of specific skills-you may need to add supplemental materials to help children master the skills in these learning domains.
  • Do you have several children that have mastered specific skills? You may need to provide more challenging activities, or you may need to implement some scaffolding techniques to help the children in your children progress towards the next level of mastery.
  • Only have a few children needing support? Use your data as a guide to place children needing similar support together for small group instruction.

The results of these assessments will serve as your guide to select more meaningful materials, and plan more appropriate activities for the preschool aged children in your care.

Organizing your data!

This product includes everything you'll need to organize your assessment data. It includes print ready and editable covers, dividers, and spines.  Use the editable covers to create personalized binders and portfolios for your students.

More Assessment Tips

  • Whenever possible, take time to observe children as they play.
  • Set up your learning spaces with developmentally appropriate activities, toys and games to provide opportunities for you to complete authentic assessments across multiple learning domains.
