Create Snowflake Patterns

Creating patterns is a fun and educational activity. 
There are so many fun ways to use these Snowflake Pattern Mats with preschoolers! 
Setup is easy too, simply print and set out with your favorite manipulatives. 

Snowflake Pattern Mats

Inside our Snowflake Pattern Mats set you will find 6 different pattern mat pages in black and white. Simply print the patterns of your choice!

As children master AB patterns, be sure to add in more colors to encourage development of more complex patterns.

These open ended mats can be used with a variety of patterning items. Consider using them with:

• Items from Nature: Rocks, Leaves, Flower Petals, Shells, Beans, Seeds etc.
• Loose Parts: Pom Poms, Gems, plastic Jewels, Buttons, etc.

You can also use this set as:

• As laminated play dough mats
• In your open Art area as coloring sheets
• Place them under contact paper to make sticky collages
• Print them to use on the light table (Consider printing them on Vellum and laminating for extra durability)

Use these pages to create patterns with gems, pom poms, mini erasers, daubers, crayons, plastic jewels, rocks, or any other of your favorite manipulatives or loose parts!

Glass gems are perfect for this activity. They are affordable (they can be found at most dollar stores) and preschoolers love to use them.
**Teacher Tip: Laminate the pages for durability. 

As children work on their design they are also developing hand-eye-coordination and dexterity. Encourage children to create simple patterns (AB, or ABB) around each ring on the mat.

Mini Erasers are another affordable option. They can also be found in the Target Dollar Spot, or at a local dollar store. As children work on their patterning skills, they are also building fine motor skills as they manipulate smaller objects with their fingers.

Older children that have mastered AB, and ABB, patterns can move onto more advanced patterns, such as ABC. Beads are another option for older children working on this skill.

Try using these mats with pom poms of different sizes. If you leave them un-laminated, students can use them with stickers, daubers, as coloring pages, or to practice using glue. Encourage student to practice adding just a dot of glue to each circle. 

Add themed erasers, or other counters to easily incorporate these designs into any theme!​ Here we have featured plastic hearts from the dollar tree that would make this a fun Valentine's Day themed activity.
