Preschoolers love to learn about the world around them and the people in their community. Some of their favorite community helpers are sanitation engineers who come to pick up the garbage and recycling. With Earth Day right around the corner, it's a great time to teach children about the importance of recycling by transforming your dramatic play space into a recycling center. You can create your own recycling center by gathering a variety of recyclable materials. Be sure to spread the word to your clients that you are looking for these items-chances are they have some they can donate! You can include items such as: Yogurt cups, empty water bottles. cereal boxes, egg carton, magazines etc. Set up bins or boxes for recycling. Label each on for sorting: Paper, Plastic, Metal, and Glass. Take some time to talk to the children, and Read books about Recycling and Redemption. Many states have programs where they purchase recyclable items. Provide the children with a cash register so that they can pay their customers for returns. This particular Pretend Recycling Center was created using printables from my Recycling Center Dramatic Play pack. These packs make it easy for you to print and set up your pretend play space. Kids love to sort real items. A kitchen scale is another great item to add your space. You can talk about the size, shape, and weight of different items. This set includes a variety of print rich materials including several leveled receipts. There is so much work to do at the recycling center! You can use the included job cards, and posters to help young children learn more about the different jobs at the center. At the end of the week you can take a field trip to drop of your dramatic play recyclables-or place them in your recycling can for pick up. The Children will enjoy watching them being picked up on garbage day! What's included: This 33-Page Dramatic Play Pack includes the following pages:
