Take a closer look at the activities..
Arctic Animal Patterning
Invite your preschooler to practice patterning skills with these fun Arctic animals.
Polar Bear Shape Match
These polar bears come in funny shapes; identify the shape of each polar bear then clip the matching shape at the bottom of the card.
Hockey Puck Counting Mat and Cards
Use this theme to engage children while learning number recognition and counting skills. Flip a card, read the number and then add the same number of of your favorite math counters (we used black pom poms) to the mat. I have included the written number word to support young children learning number sight words.
Polar Bear Letter Matching
Match up the top half of the polar bear to the bottom by matching uppercase-to-lowercase letters.
Arctic Animals Word Wall Cards
Learn the names of Arctic animals with these word wall cards. These cards can be used in your writing center or with fun gross motor games.
Flippers vs. Feet
Take a look at how animals in the Arctic move. Examine each animal then sort based on whether they have flippers of feet. Challenge your preschooler to find other ways to sort the animals.
Engage in discussion with your preschooler about camouflage. Study each card and decide which animals could hide in the snow.
Pick your favorite Arctic animal card to use in this roll and play game. Roll the playing cube then move your animal between the same number of icebergs.
Arctic Animal Memory
Print two copies of the Arctic Animals cards and use to play memory.
Polar Bear Path
Follow the line along the footprints in the snow to find the polar bear. This activity supports fine motor and literacy development in preschoolers. After following the line cut along the line to practice scissor skills.
I can Build an Igloo
Preschoolers will have fun building an igloo with this activity.
**Teacher Tip: Add snow or kinetic sand to your sensory table. Children can use this activity as a planning document to create a blueprint for an igloo they can later create in the sensory table.
Arctic Animals Matching Mat
Preschoolers will love the adorable animals featured in this Arctic Animals Matching Game.
Follow up this activity with a fun book about arctic animals.
Put together an igloo while developing numeral recognition and numerical order.
Igloo & Ice Fishing Color Match
Playing color matching games is great for young children of all ages. These activities support young children that are just beginning to recognize colors. Children that have already mastered color recognition can benefit from these activities as it helps them develop visual discrimination skills.
This Ice Fishing Color Matching hands-on activity is a fun way for preschoolers to refine these skills.
Ice Fishing Counting Mats with Frames
Ten frames are an excellent tool for teaching numeral recognition, cardinality, and 1:1 correspondence, all essential skills for kindergarten readiness.
The fun Ice Fishing theme will keep preschoolers engaged in this activity. Use with the included printable fish counters, or pair with your own fun counters such as buttons, pom poms, or glass gems.
**For a fun twist, print out the Ice Fishing Counting Mats on vellum to use on your light table. Pair with glass gems or translucent counters
