Yes, it's really that simple! Teacher tip: You can extend this activity by bringing in three different types of apples as a way to predict and observe if this will affect building. Talk about the consistency and texture of each apple. You can even include a taste-testing before building! Directions: This edible engineering activity is the perfect opportunity to teach your preschoolers about the concepts of building with a favorite snack and a household item. Teachers should do the cutting but show preschoolers the process as you cut. Talk about safety protocols and ask what they notice about the inside of the apples. - What do you notice? - What colors do you see? - Are there seeds?  Next, preschoolers use toothpicks to connect the apple cubes to build various structures. Challenge your preschoolers to build tall and strong towers, or, have them build shapes. Talk to your preschoolers about the importance of constructing a base to ensure the structure is sturdy.
