Research bear dens
Before starting this activity explain to children that a bear needs a warm secure den to spend the winter months. You may want to read a book such as Good Night Bears and Baby Bear's not Hibernating. Take some time to research bear dens (here is a great video on youtube that shares a real den, and one here that discusses bears).
Plan your den design
Provide the children with paper, and writing utensils an encourage them to plan their design.
Construct your den
Using the materials that have been provided construct your bear den.
Test your den
Make sure it's strong enough to keep the bear warm during the winter by making it snow (cotton balls) on top of your den.
Adjust your design if needed
Do you need to make any changes? Is it strong enough?
