Whether doing an Ocean theme or just having some fun this summer, you'll definitely want to follow this quick and easy tutorial. Materials:
*We used plastic containers with lids for the paint and it made it easy to dip the fork in Directions:The first step is to have your fish cutouts ready to go, you can print out a template or freehand draw one. Card stock is a great choice for this art process as it will hold up better and make it easier to display. Be sure to have multiple cutouts ready for preschoolers that want to make a whole school of fish! Once your fish are ready, pour a little bit of paint into the lid of a plastic container or you can pour a small amount onto a paper plate. Demonstrate to your preschoolers how to gently dip the fork into the paint. Remind them that, just like glue, a little goes a long way! Invite them to dip their forks (provide a fork for each color) into the colors and press onto the fish. As they start ask them what they notice about how the paint goes on the paper, how is it different/similar to other paint processes? Encourage your preschoolers to experiment with different angles and pressure to create varied effects and colors. You can also use this as an opportunity to introduce patterning. *Try playing some calm ocean sounds or other related music as children create Using a fork to paint requires preschoolers to engage their fine-motor skills in a way that is very different from traditional painting. Encourage your preschoolers to enjoy the process and take their time to complete their project. Patience and slowing down during art can be a hard concept for preschoolers but with consistent activities that require them to take their time you'll see a difference in how they approach art. During this project we only used two colors but feel free to let your preschoolers choose or use this an opportunity to teach about color-mixing. By using everyday plastic forks as their paintbrushes, preschoolers can create beautiful and unique artwork with just a few supplies. This is a technique you can use in all different aspects of art.
