Your preschoolers are going to LOVE this free Storytime Activity! This activity combines literacy, science, and math in one fun hands-on activity.
Pair this free activity with the book Forest Night, Forest Bright by Jennifer Ward. This book features beautiful illustrations that cleverly show forest animals that are active in different parts of the forest during the day and then during the night. Children can discover how activity changes in the forest depending on the time of day.
To complete this activity you will need:
Begin by reading the story aloud to your preschoolers. See if they can spot all the different animals on each page.
After reading the story aloud, invite preschoolers to engage in the diurnal/nocturnal sorting activity.
**Teacher Tip: Encourage children to use the book as a guide. This supports learning that books can be used as a resource.
While engaging in this activity, younger preschoolers can work on identifying numerals. Advanced preschoolers and kindergartners can match the numeral to the written number word on the sorting mat.
