Baking an apple pie is a fantastic and tasty way to teach kids math, science and literacy.
This simple mini apple pie recipe is perfect for baking with kids!
Whether you're baking an apple pie as part of your Apples Theme or just for fun, this is an excellent time to explore with senses. Talk about the ingredients as you gather them. What do they smell like? Why do you think each ingredient is needed?

Preheat oven to 425
Use a food processor to pulse flour, salt, and sugar for 1 minute
Scatter in butter and pulse until crumbly dough forms
Remove from processor and place in bowl.
Stir in water 1 tablespoon at a time until dough forms
Form 2 balls of dough, wrap in plastic wrap and cool in fridge for 1 hour.
Use this time to mix up your filling.
Bring to room temperature and roll out to ⅛ inch thick.
Use a cutter to make 6 inch circles, for added math fun measure your circles for accuracy.
Place circle on line baking sheet and spoon 3-4 tablespoons of filling in the center of one circle. Be sure to have our preschooler see if they can identify the center of the circle.
Fold crust over pie filling to create half circle shape and use a fork to press the edges all the way around to seal. Preschoolers will love to help with this part.
Sprinkle with cinnamon
Bake mini pies for 15-17 minutes or until golden brown
