Natural Scented Preschool Play Dough Recipe
Preschoolers love play dough, it’s a childhood favorite for good reason, this nature scented dough is also a fantastic treat for the senses.
For educators the best part is all the skill development and strength building that happens when our young learners manipulate play dough.
Homemade play dough is easy to make, and as you will find out with this recipe, it can smell ah-mazing!
It can be difficult to find a play dough recipe that checks all the boxes. Some lack consistency, aren't the right color, or let's be honest...they don't smell great. This recipe is perfect for your next batch of play dough!
*Teacher Tip: Fruits that work the best for this recipe are orange, lime, lemon, and berries. They key is to zest the fruits. You can also add food coloring if you would like, we kept ours natural so that you could see the different textures of the orange.

Start by combining dry ingredients in a large bowl. If you are making this recipe with preschoolers, this is a great step to include them on.
Stir in oil and water-juice-zest mix.
Knead with your hands until play dough consistency is reached, add a little flour if mixture is too sticky. Including preschoolers on this step is excellent fine-motor practice and preschoolers will tell you if the mixture is too sticky, also a great time to introduce new vocabulary like glutinous, viscid, and clingy!
When the play dough is at the perfect consistency, invite your preschoolers to play. If you haven't included them in the preparation of the play dough ask them to guess what fruit the play dough is made with. You can also make multiple scents to have them smell and predict!
