Free Story Time Reflection and Fine Motor Activity
Are you looking for a fun fine motor activity to compliment your preschool insect theme? This freebie is the perfect activity to compliment the book In the tall, tall, grass by Denise Fleming. (affiliate link)
Engage your preschooler in questions about the book, vocabulary review, and a book review after enjoying this story. Then invite them to work on fine-motor development and hand-eye coordination as they practice cutting the blades of grass for this easy to assemble craft. They will also enjoy peaking inside the grass to see all of the creatures living inside a backyard habitat.
Book Review and Discussion
Preschoolers love hearing books read aloud and are learning that there are a lot of different types of books! When educators engage in discussion about books including questions about the story and exploring vocabulary words, preschoolers develop essential language and literacy skills that prepare them for reading and a lifelong love of books.
The discussion questions and book review included in this set are designed to help you easily support your preschoolers in this important part of their development in a fun and engaging way!
Set out a variety of coloring materials (markers are fun, crayons and color pencils are better for fine motor!) for your preschooler to use for this craft. Coloring in the little bugs is fun and great for hand-eye coordination. Encourage your preschooler to reflect on the story, which of the critters do they recall?
Assemble the craft with just the right amount of glue and then peek in the grass to find the critters (perhaps a game of I Spy is in order?). When the fun of peeking through the grass is through, it's time to get in some scissor practice! Snip snip snip the grass away to reveal all the hidden creatures.
