Dog Bath Read and Sequence Activity
Learning to sequence and retell stories is an important part of learning to read.
Rebus stories are a good tool for teaching children to retell stories and pick out the parts of a story.
In this activity children read the story I Can Give My Dog a Bath with an adult. Then, they can identify the words and images in the word bank. Finally, they can sequence the events from the story.
**The sequence portion can also be done as a cut and paste activity.. There is both a color and a B&W version included
Begin this activity by talking about the images and words on the Word Bank sheet. This helps children to be successful in reading the story with you as well as with the follow up sequencing activity.
Young children will enjoy following the story as you read it aloud, they can point out and identify the images/words as you read.
Be sure to pause before the words that have an image to give children a chance to fill it in.
The sequencing activity gives children a chance to recall the story and put the events in order. I've included both a color version and a B&W, print whichever best fits your needs.
