 Give preschoolers a hands-on experience with Humpty Dumpty in your small world centers during your Mother Goose & Nursery Rhymes theme. Humpty Dumpty is a childhood classic and an excellent rhyme that teaches preschoolers early literacy concepts like rhyming and puzzles! 

It's also a favorite to kick off your Nursery Rhymes or Fairy Tales thematic unit.
An invitation to play is the process of setting up materials and toys for preschoolers to explore during an open-ended play session. This allows preschoolers to build, create, and use their imaginations to explore. While we provide preschoolers with specific materials, there is no expected outcome, instead, we learn from our little learners through their creations. Follow along to learn more about bringing Humpty Dumpy into your small world centers with an invitation to play!

• Assorted sizes and colors of plastic eggs
• Googly eyes
• Glue sticks
• Blocks such as duplo legos, mega blocks or wooden blocks.

Getting Started:

To bring this invitation to play into your small world center start by adhering googly eyes to your plastic eggs. Invite preschoolers to join in on this step! Alternatively preschoolers could draw on their own face using permanent markers. Encourage creativity, they can make mix-matched eggs or even decorate Humpty Dumpty with yarn for hair!

After they have crafted their eggs invite them to create towers, castles, or high-walls for Humpty Dumpty! After they have built their structures encourage preschoolers to bring in different characters and animals. They can recreate their favorite stories with a variety of characters.

After preschoolers have built their structures and have played for a bit, extend the learning by experimenting with Humpty Dumpty's fall. How far can he fall before he cracks and can they put him back together again? This invitation to play is an excellent way to add onto other Mother Goose and Nursery Rhyme activities. 

The best part about invitation to play activities is they can be done with just about any theme or activity! We hope your preschoolers love building structures for Humpty Dumpty.
