Our free Fruit and Veggie 3-part cards are perfect for a variety of literacy and physical development activities to compliment your Fruit and Vegetable theme. Not only are these cards versatile, but they can also be used in a variety of low cost hands-on activities to keep your little learners engaged. Here are some creative ways to use the cards in your classroom or home based setting.

Fruit and Veggie Matching with Play Food

Picture
Objective: Reinforce fruit and vegetable identification and matching skills.
How to Play:

  • Gather some pretend fruit and vegetable play food (I picked these up at the Dollar Tree).
  • Scatter the 3-Part Cards on the floor or table.

  • Have the children use the play food to match the fruit and vegetable items to the corresponding cards.
  • You can add a fun twist by practicing gross motor skills—have the children hop, skip, or crawl to the matching items like little bunnies or animals!
This activity not only helps preschoolers learn to identify different fruits and vegetables but also encourages active play and motor development.

Fruit and Veggie Pick-Up with a Claw Tool

Picture
Objective: Build fine motor skills and matching abilities.
How to Play:
  • Scatter the 3-Part Cards on the floor or a designated area.
  • Provide children with a claw tool-like this one from the Dollar Tree (or let them use their hands if they don’t have one) to pick up fruit and vegetable play food.
  • Have them match the play food items to the correct cards, placing each item next to its corresponding image.
  • After matching, place the items in a baskets labeled Fruit & Vegetable to encourage sorting and categorizing skills.
  • This activity promotes fine motor development, memory recall, and teaches kids about different types of fruits and vegetables in a hands-on way.

Fruit and Veggie Lacing Cards

Use these 3-part cards to make DIY lacing cards for your preschoolers, we have all the details on our DIY Lacing Cards blog post.
Objective:
Enhance fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
How to Play:
  • Use the 3-Part Cards to create DIY lacing cards.
  • Punch holes along the edges of the cards (or use a hole puncher) to create spaces for lacing.
  • Provide children with lacing string or shoelaces to thread through the holes.
  • As they lace the cards, encourage them to name the fruits and vegetables.
This fun DIY activity improves hand-eye coordination, concentration, and fine motor skills, while reinforcing the names and images of fruits and vegetables.

Memory Matching Game

Objective: Improve memory and recall skills.
How to Play:
  • Lay down two sets of 3-Part Cards (one with images and one with words) in a grid formation.
  • Children take turns flipping over two cards at a time, trying to find matching pairs (one image and one word).
  • If they find a match, they keep the pair. If not, they flip the cards back over, and it’s the next player’s turn.
This classic memory game helps reinforce vocabulary and memory skills while making learning about fruits and vegetables fun!

Fruit and Veggie Sorting

Objective: Teach categorization and classification skills.
How to Play:
  • Spread the 3-Part Cards out and have children sort them by type (fruit vs. vegetable) or by other characteristics like color or shape.
  • Discuss why certain items belong in specific categories, encouraging critical thinking and conversation about the differences between fruits and vegetables.
This simple sorting activity helps preschoolers understand concepts of categorization while reinforcing knowledge about healthy foods.
