Preschoolers love to learn all about dinosaurs and fossils.
This Dinosaur Track Fossil Necklace creation is sure to be a hit!
Creating this necklace is a simple process that many preschoolers can do with little support.
Material list for this invitation to create:
Pick a Dino Track
Provide your preschooler with a variety of options for their dinosaur track. Be sure the feet of the dinosaurs have some character to them, some plastic dinos simply have round feet which won't work well for this project.
They should also be a hard plastic so they can be pressed into the modeling compound.
Roll and Flatten
Each child used about 1/2 of the 1oz class packs of Model Magic. Roll the compound between your palms to smooth it out, then roll on the table to transform into a smooth round ball.
Next, flatten the ball.
Make the Imprint
Next, place the chosen dino on the compound and press down firmly. Model magic is somewhat springy, but you don't want the dino to go all the way through. I recommend pressing firmly, then lifting to see how deep the print set. Press again if needed.
Next, allow the track to dry for about 24 hours. Model magic holds up very well after air drying.
Once dry, you can add the string and enjoy the completed project, or continue to add glaze and/or add color.
Add color of your choice to the track, after painting allow the paint to dry completely before adding the glaze.
The Model Magic Glossy Glaze gives the model magic a nice shiny finish. Optional, but a fun way to add a little something extra.
Wear with Pride
Once completely dry, add string and enjoy wearing this handmade necklace!
