Treat your preschoolers to a tasty snack while exploring science!
Build your very own solar oven and then test it out by making yummy s'mores. Perfect to pair with your Camping Theme Exploration.
Make sure pizza box is cleaned out, remove any liners it may have come with
On top of the box lid, draw a square about 1 inch from the edge.
Use the utility knife and ruler to cut along the drawn line on all sides except the box hinge side, leave that intact and fold back slightly.
Line the inside of the flap with aluminum foil, fold edges over and use glue to hold the foil in place.
Cover the opening made by the flap on the lid with a layer of plastic wrap, secure the wrap with tape.
Line the ENTIRE inside of the box (even the border of the plastic window) with aluminum foil using glue and tape when needed to secure it in place.
Glue or tape the piece of black construction paper in the center of the bottom of the box, on top of the foil, this creates your oven's heat sink.
Use the wooden dowel or pencil to prop the lid up at a ninety degree angle.
Prepare your s’more by placing a graham cracker on a small piece of foil (cooking tray), then layer chocolate bar, marshmallow, and top graham cracker.
Place the tray in the center of the black paper inside the oven.
Close the box, keep the lid propped, and cook for about 30 minutes.
When marshmallow is soft and chocolate is slightly melted, your s’more is ready!
