Preschool Beach Sand Tray Tutorial

This Beach inspired preschool sand tray was created with items I picked up at the Dollar Tree and cost less than $5 to make!
With Summer in full swing it's a great time to plan some fun in the sun activities.
This tutorial combines two of my favorite things:
the beach, and creating learning activities on a shoestring budget.
This fun activity is one of 200 hands on preschool activities featured in our Pre-K Play Ideas eBook! Purchase our eBook to have all of these activity pages at your fingertips.
You will need:
Select 10 Shells, Label the Inside of each shell with a number from 1-10. Expand this activity by including more numbers (1-20), letters, or even shapes.
Invite Preschoolers to Learn and Play
Pour the Sand into the tray and display the shells around the outside.
There are a variety of ways this tray can be used, I've listed just a few below.
Children can take turns flipping over the Shells and writing the matching number in the Sand.
Use this activity to practice counting, or for a more advanced activity,
students can practice adding or subtracting.
The sand can be smoothed out with the paintbrush to set up a new invitation to play! Teaching children how to do this is a good way to reinforce the importance of cleanup, coordination, precision, and focus.
