Amish Friendship Bread with Starter

Create an Amish Friendship Bread Starter with your preschooler as part of your Friendship & Kindness theme activities or anytime!
This recipe is super easy to follow and your preschooler will love sharing their creation with family and friends.

Starter -

1 pack active dry yeast
¼ cup warm water:
1 cup flour
1 cup milk

Bread -

1 cup of starter above
3 eggs
1 cup vegetable oil
½ cup milk
1 cup sugar
½ teaspoon vanilla
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon baking soda
2 cups flour
1 package instant vanilla pudding
1 cup walnuts, chopped
1 cup raisins

Starter Directions

Instructions to make your starter
Day 1:

Dissolve yeast in water, let stand 10 minutes)
In a glass bowl whisk flour and slowly pour in milk and then yeast mixture.
Place in Ziplock bag and keep at room temperature
Add 1 cup sugar
Days: 2 – 5: mash the bag
Day 6: add 1 cup each flour, sugar, milk and mash to combine
Days 7 – 9: mash the bag
Day 10: Pour mixture into glass bowl and stir in ½ cup each flour, sugar, and milk
Stir with a wooden spoon
Divide into 1 cup portions as starters to give away to friends and family
