Preschool Spring Cleaning Topic Ideas & Learning Objectives

Free Spring Cleaning Preschool Lesson Plan
Here are some suggested preschool learning objectives for a Spring Cleaning theme:
Self-Help & Life Skills
  • Demonstrate increased independence in cleaning and organizing tasks (e.g., wiping tables, picking up toys).
  • Follow multi-step directions during classroom clean-up routines.
  • Take responsibility for personal belongings and shared classroom spaces.
Fine Motor Development
  • Strengthen hand muscles through actions such as spraying, scrubbing, squeezing, and folding.
  • Practice pouring, wringing, and using cleaning tools like dustpans, brushes, and cloths.
  • Develop hand-eye coordination through sorting and organizing tasks.
Cognitive & Math Skills
  • Sort objects by size, type, or category during clean-up or organizing activities.
  • Recognize and match pairs (e.g., sock matching or toy sorting).
  • Understand and use positional language (e.g., under, inside, next to) during cleaning routines.
Language & Literacy
  • Learn and use vocabulary related to cleaning and organizing (e.g., wipe, sort, fold, sponge, spray, tidy).

Spring Cleaning Your Space

Add Spring Cleaning items to your Dramatic Play Space this week such as: Child size Brooms, Mops, Dustpans, Empty Spray Bottles, Sponges, Feather Dusters, Cleaning Brushes, Cloths, and Buckets.

Ivory Soap Experiment

Have an adult place a bar of Ivory soap in the microwave on a microwave safe plate for one minute. Let students talk about how the soap looked before and after you placed it in the microwave. After you allow the soap to cool about 2minutes or so. You can place the soap in a sensory bin for students to explore.
