Spring Cleaning Your Space

Add Spring Cleaning items to your Dramatic Play Space this week such as: Child size Brooms, Mops, Dustpans, Empty Spray Bottles, Sponges, Father Dusters, Cleaning Brushes, Cloths, and Buckets.

Positional Phrases Laundry

 Use a laundry basket to practice positional phrases and multiple part directions. 
You can have your preschooler do this using their body or have them use clothing. 
Practice: above, under, beside, on top, below, next to, behind, and in front. 
Once preschoolers master these, move on to multi step directions "Sit on the basket, then stand behind the basket"

Sweeping Objects into 2D shapes

Tape 2D shapes on the floor, and have your student practice sweeping beans, or other objects into each shape.

Clothes on the Line

Take activities outside to enjoy fresh air and nature while engaging in play Laurie S. of There's No Place like Home Daycare added this adorable clothesline to her outside space.
​For an extra science element, get the clothes wet outside, then hang to dry. Compare clothes hung on the line to those left to dry in a basket, which ones dry faster?

Wash the Dishes

Set up a dish washing station for children to practice cleaning dishes, be sure to add some bubbles for sensory exploration. 
Outside you can set up a dish washing station in your Mud Kitchen. Have children compare the results of cleaning their mud pie tins using just water and then using soap and water.

Fill and Squeeze Sponge Sensory Bin

Add cut sponges, and containers, to a sensory bin. Encourage students to soak the sponges and fill the containers by squeezing the sponges. 

Wash the Cars

Add rags, dish soap, and water a bucket, or sensory bin and have them wash down the outside toys. 

Ivory Soap Experiment

Have an adult place a bar of Ivory soap in the microwave on a microwave safe plate for one minute. Let students talk about how the soap looked before and after you placed it in the microwave. After you allow the soap to cool about 2minutes or so. You can place the soap in a sensory bin for students to explore. Check out our tutorial for this activity.

Set out a stack of washcloths and have young children practice folding them.

Sorting Laundry Relay Race

Set up a relay race to get preschoolers moving. 
Place a pile of laundry on one side of the room. Include 3-4 different categories of laundry such as socks, hats, gloves, and shirts. 
On the other side of the room set up a basket for each category. As children are going back and forth grabbing items to sort, challenge them to move their bodies in different ways. 

Gross Motor / Active Play: Sock Toss

Set out a laundry basket and have students toss clean socks into the basket. If they make it, have them take a step back and try again. Another way to play is have students get in groups of two and toss the socks to each other. When they catch it have them take a step back to continue the challenge.
