Art & Creativity
Snowman Snack
Invite your preschooler to make an indoor snowman with this delicious and healthy snowman snack with stuff you already have at home or can pick up for a low price at your local dollar or grocery store.

Dramatic Play
Pretend to Shovel Snow 
Set up an invitation to shovel snow indoors. Place cotton balls, balled up socks, or pretend snowballs all over the floor. Then invite children to scoop up the "snow" with a shovel.

Building & Small World Play
Snow Plowing Small World Play
Add Construction vehicles, cotton balls, or white pompoms to your construction area. The kids can practice "plowing" their streets.

Language and Literacy
Snowman Sight Word Puzzles
Students will match the sight words.
Editable Snowman Name Craft
Students will correctly put the letters in the name in order.

Mathematics
Snowball Counting Cards
Students will place the correct amount in each frame.
Snowball Ordering By Size
Students will place the cards in order from smallest to largest or largest to smallest

Science & Discovery
Snow Volcano
Create a volcano in the snow!
Help your preschoolers build a mound of snow. Make a well in the center at the top of volcano, big enough to fit the cup in. Fill the cup with baking soda, dish soap, and vinegar then watch it erupt!

Physical Fine Motor
Snowman Cut and Paste
Students will cut and paste the event in order.

Jazz up your calm down space or box with some snow themed posters and objects including a sign that says ""A Place to Chill".

Snow & Snowman Dramatic Play Ideas

Add a variety of winter weather dress up items (mittens, scarves, etc.) to your dramatic play space as well as pretend snowballs.

Build a Snowman

This clever space below, belongs to community member Amy McMonagle of BuggaBee & Me Daycare.
Amy sewed these large snowballs from felt. After the children have stacked their snowman, they can embellish him with snowman features that attach with velcro.

*Shoveling Snow

*Snowball Counting Cards

Count up snowballs while staying warm with Snowball Count and Clip cards from the Snow and Snowmen Activity Pack from PKPF

Snowball Ordering by Size

Invite children to order snowballs by size with this activity from the Snow & Snowman Activity Pack, then try extending this activity by creating snowballs outside or with play dough and sort by size

Snowman and Button Color Matching

Identify the bow color on each snowman, then add buttons of the same color to the snowman to practice color matching and fine motor skills. Community Member Sheena W. used small magnets with these cards, you can also using the printable buttons included in the ​Snow and Snowmen Activity Pack from PKPF

Weighing snow

Take a scale and some buckets outside to weigh snow! After the first couple buckets encourage children to guess how much each bucket of snow will weigh. This could also be done in a sensory bin with a balance scale.

Hibernation

Member Jenna L. provided materials for creating animal territories and places to hibernate! I love the creative use of both classroom materials and outdoor collections that were used!

Member Laurie C. shared this fun activity to go along with the book Footprints In The Snow. I love when activities stem from a good book!

Community member Lori C. of Lori's House Daycare brought out play shoes to make footprints in play dough! This is such a clever way to talk about footprints and patterns!

Create Fake Snow 

Whip up some fake snow for your sensory bin!
​Add accessories to the bin for children to build snow people.

Snow Volcano

Create a volcano in the snow!

Materials:

• Snow
  
• Vinegar
  
• Dish soap
  
• Baking Soda
  
• Plastic Cup
  
• Red food coloring
  

Procedure:
Help your preschoolers build a mound of snow. Make a well in the center at the top of volcano, big enough to fit the cup in. Fill the cup about halfway with baking soda and place inside the top of the volcano.
Mix 1/2 cup of vinegar with the food coloring and a few drops of dish soap in a small container that the children can handle.
Once the vinegar mixture is ready it's time to pour it into the volcano and watch the magic happen!

Upcycle some plastic bottles by filling them with cotton balls to make snowman pins. Line them up and invite children try and knock them down by rolling a ball towards them.
