Magnetic Egg SortingThis activity was submitted by community member Sheena W. of Building Blocks Family Child Care.
For this activity you will need about 10 sturdy plastic Easter eggs, various objects (some magnetic), a magnet wand, and tape or glue for the eggs (optional). Fill about half of your eggs with magnetic items such as bolts, bells, paper clips, and chenille sticks. Fill the other half with non-magnetic items such as small rocks, pom poms, and erasers. You can place your eggs in a bed of shredded paper for added appeal. Challenge children to use their magnetic want to sort the eggs into two different baskets; Magnetic and Not Magnetic. Older children may be interested in opening the eggs after the activity to explore which items were magnetic and explore them further. For younger children, be sure to seal the eggs. |
