Create Your Own Hockey Jersey
Give children blank t-shirt cut outs and variety of craft materials and allow
them to create their very own hockey jersey.

Pipe Cleaner Snowboard
Give each child a large craft stick and several pipe cleaners. Have them create a person with the pipe cleaners. Then decorate their craft stick as desired. When done attach the pipe cleaner person to the craft stick to create their snowboarder.

Athlete Towers
Set up a life-size cutout of a winter sports athlete and challenge children to use different materials to make a tower as tall as the athlete.
Build a Sled
Leave out various recycled materials and challenge children to make a mini-sled for a stuffed animal. Once children are done with their creations, you can take them out in the snow and test them out or use your ski ramp inside if snow isn't available.
Magnet Block Ski Ramps
Use Magnatiles to create ski ramps to use in small world play.
Recycled Hockey Stick
Leave out a variety of recyclables, tape and glue and invite children to make a recycled hockey stick.
Create a Small World Ice Rink
Create a cardboard ramp in your building area and add people figures with cardboard taped to their feet to simulate skis. Invite children to make the figures ski down the mountain!

Measure Winter Sports Gear
Bring in winter sports gear (a ski, snowboard, etc). Have your students use blocks or other non-standard units to measure length. Invite students and families to bring in any gear, too. This could also be a great opportunity to turn this activity into a charitable donation.
Use a Stopwatch
Use a stopwatch to record speed. Record how fast your student can "speed skate" from one spot to another. Use masking tape to mark your start and finish lines. Try beating your time.

Sort the Winter Sports Gear *When getting ready for winter sports consideration must be given to the type of surface being played on. Use this sorting activity to get preschoolers familiar with winter sports gear and practice their sorting skills. While sorting talk about the construction of each type of gear to figure out where each is best used.

Sports and Our Bodies
After completing one of the gross sports activities, have children put their hands over their hearts to feel how quickly their heart is beating. Talk about how doing activities like sports raising our heart rate and is good for our health.
Cross Country Skiing
Place a long line down on the floor using painter's tape. Have students line up and place their hands on the person in front of them. Have them simulate Cross Country Skiing by walking together. They will need to step together by stepping with their right foot and then their left foot, repeating their steps as they "ski" along the line.
