Create a Mother's Day Card*

Hand Print Craft
Hand print crafts make memorable gifts.
You can either trace and cut out your students hand print, or have them stamp their hand print on the paper. This craft template can be found inside our Mother's Mini Day Activity Pack. |
My hand in Yours-Parent Engagement Idea
This can be a send home project, or done in class. This would be a fun station to set up during a mother's day tea party. Have mothers make a hand print from paint on a piece of card stock. Once dry, add the child's hand print in another color.
Decorate your Dramatic Play Space with photos of mothers and their children. If possible use photos of the children in your program. Be sure you also have plenty of baby dolls available in your housekeeping space.

Add Tea Party Props to your Dramatic Play Space this week. Include non-breakable Tea Pots, cups,

Create a Book About Mom
Set up a book making station. Create pages with prompts on them such as "I love my Mommy because..." then invite children to fill them in (or dictate to you) and/or draw illustrations.
The book can be a gift for their mother or for themselves as a keepsake.

I Like Noisy Mom Likes Quiet
Read this book aloud or watch it on youtube.
Discuss:
After listening to the book, talk about opposites. Ask preschoolers what they like that is different from what their parent likes. What other opposites can they think of?

Sing and Extend a song
Down by the Bay by Raffi is a fantastic song for kids that incorporates rhyming and encourages extension.
Listen to the song during circle time then collaborate to create more lyrics!

Mother's Names in ABC Order
Have you students tell you their Mother's Name (or Mother Figure), write each name on a piece of paper.

Create a Nature CollagePlan and create a nature collage for a beautiful Mother's Day gift! Start by encouraging children to plan how they will create their artwork. What colors will they use? What types of material will they collect?
Next, get out into nature and collect materials. As children collect materials challenge them to consider what items may stick to the glue and which may not (and why). Then, combine clear glue and paint and pour the mixture into a shallow container of choice (a cardboard lid works great). Then encourage students to arrange their nature treasures into the lid as they see fit. Allow the art to dry , then add string to the back so it can be hung. |

Add plenty of recyclables to the art center this week for children to design and create a unique Mother's Day gift.

Baby Bath Sensory Bin
All children can benefit from learning what makes a good parent.
Transform your sensory bin into a baby bath tub. Invite your preschoolers to give their babies a bath. Supply washable baby dolls, soap, water, and towels. Keep the activity going all week, clean the baby clothes, play dishes, and toy cars. |

Bath Bombs make a lovely Mother's Day Gift! You can find your own kits on Amazon, or search for a kid friendly recipe that uses items found around your kitchen
Make your own Perfume
Perfume making with preschoolers is a new and exciting Science and Discovery experience that your preschoolers will enjoy! Making perfume is a great way to stimulate their senses and creativity while following a specific recipe. Family Differences
It's important for educators to keep in mind that children have all kinds of families at home. Some may not have their mother living in the home.
You can support these students by being mindful of the vocabulary used.

Many Educators like to throw a special party for Mother's Day. It can be as simple as offering Mom's a Fresh Coffee and Bagel for their Commute to as elaborate as a Tea party.

Share something Special about your Mom
Facilitate a group discussion. Allow each student some time to share something special about their Mom.

What do they appreciate about their Mom
What do they call their Mom (Mom, Mommy, something else)?

Similar & Different
Have your students talk with a partner and find something that is similar about their moms and something that is different about their moms. It can be as simple as they both wear glasses, or one mom reads bedtime stories and the other student's dad reads them a bedtime story.
Mommy and Me Display
Invite children to display photos of themselves with their mother to display on the classroom display board and around the classroom.
Mommy and Me Yoga
Try mommy and me yoga at home with your little one. This can be a fun way to try something new with your preschooler or introduce them to a hobby that you enjoy. Check out this YouTube video if you need ideas on what poses to try!
