Create a Nature Collage
Plan and create a nature collage for a beautiful Mother's Day gift! Start by encouraging children to plan how they will create their artwork. What colors will they use? What types of material will they collect?
Next, get out into nature and collect materials. As children collect materials challenge them to consider what items may stick to the glue and which may not (and why).
Then, combine clear glue and paint and pour the mixture into a shallow container of choice (a cardboard lid works great). Then encourage students to arrange their nature treasures into the lid as they see fit.
Allow the art to dry , then add string to the back so it can be hung.

It's important for educators to keep in mind that children have all kinds of families at home. Some may not have their mother living in the home.
You can support these students by being mindful of the vocabulary used. Children can make gifts for any caregiver in their life.

Family Differences
During circle time talk about how each family is made up of different members.
Read a book that has different types of families such as ABC A Family Book by Bobbie Combs or The Family Book by Todd Parr.
Invite children to talk about who is a part of their family. Sometimes both parents live at home, sometimes they have different homes. Some children live with extended family.
Some families are very large, others are very small.
Print photos of families (not the ones in your program) with all different types of members. Invite children to count up how many family members are in each family.
