Stained Glass Craft
Mix glue and water together. Pour onto a plastic plate. Have children add drops of food coloring. Then add a few drops of dish soap. Then let it dry. Make Royal Crowns
Set out a variety of construction paper, craft scissors, gems, stickers, and glitter glue to invite your preschoolers to create a royal crown! This is a great opportunity for preschoolers to express their creativity and then wear their design with pride.

*Create a Cardboard Castle for Royal Pretend PlayAdd a variety of capes, crowns, or play silks to this space for pretend play. Create a castle using a cardboard box. Provide a treasure chest and play gold (poker chips spray painted gold) for pretend play. Provide a box of assorted table items for a feast: such as plastic goblets, chargers, and wooden candlesticks.

Fairy Tale Play
Set up a theater with chairs, a ticket booth, and stage. Have children put on fairy tale and medieval themed plays. Some children can be the audience and others can be the actors.

*Create Your Own Fairy Tale
Work independently or as a group to create your own fairy tale!
You can create story sticks to get the creative juices flowing. All you need is large craft sticks, or you can use stones, and a marker or stickers. Draw or put stickers on each stick of something that could be part of the fairy tale. Some examples: castle, prince/princess, troll, wand, animals, magic sparkles, crown, and dragons.
Take turns drawing a stick and then adding a couple lines to the story based on what is on the stick.

Make a Class Crest
Introduce students to family crests that were used during medieval times. Have students work together to come up with a design for a class crest. Then have them create it so that it can be displayed during your theme.
Medieval Instruments & Music
Introduce children to medieval music and instruments that were popular during Medieval Times. You can listen to it, watch a video, show pictures of different instruments, and teach students to play instrument, like the recorder, tambourine, or Cymbals!

Theme Communication
In your newsletter for this theme be sure to ask parents to bring in any colorful scarves and capes they may have. Some parents may be interested in helping create other fun royal costumes as well! This is a great time to engage any parents that are handy with a sewing machine.
Be sure to review your lesson plan and ask for other materials you may want in advance such as large boxes for castle making, fancy sparkly craft items, and fabric for dress-up.

Family Feast
Set up a time either during program hours or outside or hours for a fun family feast! Invite families to attend dressed as royalty for added fun. Be sure to ask for parent volunteers for setting up, materials, and clean-up.
Research how to properly set a table for a formal dinner, this is a great time to practice a life skill!
