Invite preschoolers to create a pretend worm farm out of blocks
Invite preschoolers to build a home for a snail, slug, or worm. Encourage them to consider what type of materials these creatures use and what they can use to represent those materials.
While digging in the dirt keep track of the creatures everyone finds, later chart, compare, and discuss what everyone found.
Play What Am I? Encourage preschoolers to take turns pretending to be a snail, slug, or worm and have their peers guess which they are. Extend by encouraging them to act as other creatures once they have all had a turn to be a snail, slug, or worm.
Create a garden creature obstacle course! Include tunnels to encourage preschoolers to wiggle through like worms, large rocks (or item to represent a rock) to glide over like a snail, logs, etc.
Have a worms, snails, and slugs relay race! The first student begins by moving across the room like a worm, when they return the next student moves like a slug...and so on.
Play a variation of freeze dance, when the music stops the teacher calls out a creature for preschoolers to dance as
Provide pipe cleaners (worms) and a strainer, encourage preschoolers to weave the pipe cleaners through the strainer
Provide tweezers and small pretend garden creatures for sorting
Create a Worm Play Dough Invitation. Provide brown play dough along with pretend worms, snails, and slugs. You could also use pipe cleaners and pom poms to represent the creatures.
