*Make Royal Crowns
Set out a variety of construction paper, craft scissors, gems, stickers, and glitter glue to invite your preschoolers to create a royal crown! This is a great opportunity for preschoolers to express their creativity and then wear their design with pride.
Music & Movement
Dance and move to fun royalty related songs such as the "Grand Old Duke of York"!
Listen to some music that was popular during the Medieval ages, such as baroque. Some of the instruments that were popular during this time included: pipes, drums, fiddles, harps, and bagpipes.

*Royal Dress-Up
Add a variety of capes, crowns, or play silks to this space for pretend play. Create a castle using a cardboard box. Provide a treasure chest and play gold (poker chips spray painted gold) for pretend play. Provide a box of assorted table items for a feast: such as plastic goblets, chargers, and wooden candlesticks.

Construction, blocks and small world play
*Construct Castles & Bridges
Add a variety of small world play items to your construction space such as: castles, Knights, Horses, Dragons, Kings, Queens, Princes and Princesses. Add a variety castle building block sets, and print rich items such as photos of real castles (Calendars are great for these) and the castle images found in our Let's Build Poster Pack.
Fine motor and Gross motor development
During festivals, people would engage is sports activities such as archery, jousting, hammer-throwing, and wrestling. In some areas they played early versions of football (soccer), cricket, bowling, or golf. Recreate kid friendly versions of these activities outside this week!
Loose Parts
Add some fun loose parts for fine motor and creativity development this week.
Some ideas: large colorful jewels, large sparkly pom poms, silk scarves, cylinders (paper towel tubes), and cubes (tissue boxes).

*Medieval Count & Clip Cards
Count up royal items for some math skill development then use clothespins to clip the total at the bottom to support fine motor development! This activity is included in the Medieval Fantasy Preschool Activities pack from PKPF.
*Jump the Moat
Create a moat by taping blue paper to the floor, or spread out a blue blanket. Then invite children to jump back and forth over the "moat"

Have a group dress up day and set up a royal fair, and feast outside.
Theme Communication
In your newsletter for this theme be sure to ask parents to bring in any colorful scarves and capes they may have. Some parents may be interested in helping create other fun royal costumes as well! This is a great time to engage any parents that are handy with a sewing machine.
Be sure to review your lesson plan and ask for other materials you may want in advance such as large boxes for castle making, fancy sparkly craft items, and fabric for dress-up.

Set up a time either during program hours or outside or hours for a fun family feast! Invite families to attend dressed as royalty for added fun.
