Do you remember the Joy of singing songs when you were young? Do you find yourself humming a catchy tune, that you learned from long ago? Great songs bring joy to our lives. For childcare providers, music can help with daily transitions, be used to get the wiggles out, and can also be used to teach key skills in a fun and engaging way.
Children's Performer Nancy Kopman understands the needs of young children, and how to incorporate learning through Music. For those of you who aren't familiar with Nancy, she is a Children's Singer, Songwriter and Preschool Music Specialist from Canada. Nancy has three fabulous Albums under her belt, and I'm so excited to share that she has just released her 4th Album titled Shadow.
Listen to what Nancy has to say about using Music as a Teaching tool..
I recently had a chance to download her new album, and I'm happy to report that Shadow doesn't disappoint. Like her previous Album's Shadow is upbeat, fun, and educational. It is full of engaging songs that focus on skills, and teaching educational concepts such as the Days of the Week ("7 Days of the Week"), The Months of the Year ("12 Months"), and Positional Words ("In Front/Behind").
Many of these songs would make great additions to circle time or daily transitions. I find that these songs are short enough to be used during circle time without the concern of younger children losing interest.
Although these are Children's songs, you'll find as an adult they are pleasant to listen to. One of my favorite songs on this album is "Breath in, Breath out". It is a beautiful, soothing song that would be perfect for your Naptime Transition.
You can check out Shadow and the rest of Nancy's Music on CD.Baby, and Itunes. She also has a fabulous Website (maybe you can catch her live!), and a youtube channel as well.
