I love to bring you new ways to use my products in your program! This adorable farm chores story table below was created by member Alina D. of Growing Up Montessori and Waldorf Inspired by combining miniature farm props, and the chore cards from my Farm Chores Dramatic Play Mini Pack.
A Story table combines stories/print items with storytelling props. Children can use this space to re-tell stories by manipulating these props hands on. Story tables provide many opportunities for children to to grow their language skills such as: re-telling a story, sequencing, new vocabulary, and an understanding of prepositional phrases. They can also provide a deeper understanding about non-concrete subjects, and of course allow children to express themselves creatively.
If you are short on space, you can also use this process to create a smaller story basket, or a story box. You can also use the story table as you read/re-tell a story to your children. This way of telling a story, adds a wonderful visual element, and is very helpful for children who may not understand the actions of the spoken words, or flat images in a book.
Children are so creative! It's not necessary to provide props for all of the items in the story. You can provide a few props to represent the characters and allow them to fill in the missing items, or create their own props. You can also use a variety of colored felt, or fabric to represent different settings (blue/water, green/grass, brown/dirt, etc).
There is so much to do on the farm! Using the chore cards, the children move the farmer around the table to complete the farm chores.
Sharing stories, and talking with each other is so important. We learn more about the world around us, and the people in it.
Do you have a story table to share? Swing by our group and add your photo to this post! We'd love to see your creation!
