We are reaching the last few days of summer, but you should still have some nice days left to enjoy a picnic with your preschooler! One of my favorite picnic stories is The Bear's Picnic, by Stan and Jan Berenstain. In this delightful story the Bear's go on an adventure to find just the perfect picnic spot.
To compliment this Berenstain Bears classic story, (and your picnic lesson plans!) I've created this free printable picnic blanket weaving craft template.
Paper weaving is a great hands on paper craft to build fine motor skills, and is also a fun way to explore patterns!

Have you ever studied a beautiful spiral found on a snail shell? A spiral is a curve that starts at a point, and then goes around the point, but gets farther and farther away from it. Did you know spirals occur in nature all of the time? You can find them in shells, flowers, and more things like these.
For this craft, we are going to create our own spin art using a Lazy Susan (if you don't have one you can manually create them, or attach your shell to a paper plate to spin). You can find the free craft template below!
Below you will find an easy Butterfly Symmetry project to compliment your Caterpillar and Butterfly theme. Enjoy!
Here is a free storytime activity your preschooler is going to love!
Pair my free 2D shape reindeer craft with the adorable story, The Little Reindeer by Nicola Killen or with your favorite book about reindeer.
After reading the story, invite your child to create their own reindeer.
This reindeer craft is a fun way to practice scissor skills, hand-eye coordination, and learn to read and follow directions.
This craft also provides a great opportunity to discuss 2D shapes with your child. Can they find the circle, rectangles, and ovals?
Which shapes are there the most of? or the least?

Are you searching for an inspirational activity for your mixed-age group? One that could easily be a craft or an educational classroom activity? If you sometimes find your treasures on the craft stores' clearance shelves, like me, you'll likely have most materials for this activity on hand.
Here are some simple burlap Christmas tree fine motor activities, inspired by the "Deck the Halls" Theme!
