Are you an early Childhood Educator who is drowning in stuff? Have your learning spaces become overcrowded? Are you spending too much time picking up? Do you have trouble finding things you need? Do you just feel overwhelmed by all of your classroom "Stuff"? If you answered yes, join us for our annual Classroom DeCluttering Challenge
This year our challenge will start on Friday, March 1st 2019.
How does it work? The goal of these challenges is to let things go. During our event, I will post a daily decluttering challenge inside our FB Group. Your goal is to eliminate at least one item that you no longer need, want, use or love within this challenge focus area.
These challenges are intended to be completed quickly (within 15 minutes a day) .
DeCluttering Not Organizing
The goal of these challenges is to get rid of the items that aren't adding value to your space. Don't spend your 15-minutes a day organizing (you can do that after the challenge). Instead use this challenge, to get rid of the items that you no longer use, love, need, or want.
After the challenge is over you will have more free space (both physically and visually). You will spend less time cleaning (less things to care for, easier to clean with more open space), and more time to spend on other things you enjoy.
As you go through these challenges, think about the items in your space that actually get "touched" during the day, during the Month, or even during the Year.
Kids are often content with less. For some inspiration on letting go of toys, Here is a great article written by Minimalist Joshua Becker on why fewer toys will benefit your kids.
Letting the stuff go...
Weekends are reserved for your to manage the items you are letting go!
To prevent the items you are letting go from piling up through the week, you will need to need carve out a place to "temporarily" store theses items before they leave your classroom. I recommend that you set up a simple sorting station consisting of a "Sell" box, a "Donate" box, and a Garbage Bag.
Sorting Station Tips
What should you do with the items you are letting go?
Garbage: Dispose of broken, and dangerous items.
Sell: Consider listing your items on a local FB Buy Sell page
Donate: Consider donating to another early childhood educator such as loca a daycare, preschool program, youth program or just post your items for Free on a local FB Buy/Sell Site. Check with local non-profits serving young children, and your local public schools.
You've got this.
DeCluttering can be a mental work out. I'll be making daily suggestions to help you along the way.
When you get stuck ask yourself:
Set a daily timer, turn on some of your favorite music, and pace yourself.
During the week, I'll be sharing a specific daily challenge area to help you get motivated!
Share your progress and support others!
Below you can print your free copy of our challenge calendar. Be sure to join our FB group by 3/1/19 to participate in the challenge, share photos of your progress, and support the other educators.
